It used to go tight next to the churchyard at St Mary’s if I recall correctly and just across where we would spot the LBW (LMS) would run through. This gives some impression of how vast the park is/once was, reaching, I think, right up to the church on the horizon (You can just make out the steeple - St Mary's ?)

Played tennis once there on a clay court, I believe 2/- for an hour. Big money in those days circa 1960. PS I did however pick up a few tennis balls out of the shrubery! My dad used to play tennis on the courts. He also used to collect tennis balls for pocket money. Don't know if he was paid by the parkies or he had his own little enterprise going. This would have been in the late 1920s. Have a photo of him playing tennis there, shall dig it out.
I don’t think I ever recall any of the water fountains in the park working, if they did there was hardly any water pressure. Having said that I always tried! An unusual subject in this 1950s Handsworth Park image.I'm guessing they're using a water tap.
