Handsworth Garden Bakery

Can anyone give me any more info on this Bakery in Booth Street Handsworth. I think the proprietor was Frank Newbold any info would be great.

Not much help I’m afraid. What I have for 11 Booth St is:

1921 Barrows, Francis James
1932-3 Newbold Frank
1936 11 Currall, Lewis & Martin Ltd. Constructional engnrs
1936 11 Leach Fredk. H. A.C.A.chartrd. accntnt
The electoral roll shows Frank Newbold there in 1930, but it is someone different in 1927, and no-one is listed there in 1935 (the “no-0ne is determined by looking in the actual roll, not just from the results of a search)

Cannot find Handsworth Garden Bakery listed in any of those years in Kellys.

Thank you for this Mike it is helpful as now I can confirm it is Frank Newbold as I wasn't sure. And you have confirmed when the shop was there.

The only thing is Wendy (and i should have emphasised this) . that no mention id made of a bakery or bakers shop at that address. If i hadn't seen the billlhead I would have certainly assumed it was a completely private address, which is usually so if no trade is given

How strange the bill head was sent to me by a family member. They were on the bakery side of the family but by this time the rest of the family seem to have given up the business. I wonder if an electoral roll would give any more clues.

Automatic machines
11, Booth Street
NOR 2905

No entry for the bakery

Oh thanks Colin I will have a look. The plot thickens I wonder what automatic machines were. This family is so confusing. I have found the grandmother Elizabeth Newbold my gt grandfather John Jennings's sister in America in 1880 widowed aged 50 with two children. It states in 1891 she had 12 children 6 still living!
