Can anyone give me any information on Thomas D Hammond (my great great grandfather) born about 1839?? the family lived in Leopold Street Bordesley. He was married to Ellen Hammond who was born in 1849 in Lutterworth.

My great grandfather was Henry Hammond who was one of Thomas D Hammond's son.

There was also a Thomas D Hammond junior who i think signed up for the army in WW1 although the age does not match but he could have lied on his application. I know Thomas D Junior married a lady called Ellen and they lived in Charles Henry Street but then I cant trace them.

Have a bit of information from 1891 etc but nothing going backwards from 1881 ???

Thanks

Re: Thomas D Hammond (b1839) look up please

Hi

I have the Thomas D Hammond 1874 married to Ellen Selina Butterfield in my tree. He married Ellen in Aston in 1895 and on the 1911 census they were living at the address you mentioned with 6 children. Also in 1911 my grandfather Hugh Caffery born 1902 appears with them at that address along with his grandmother (Ellen's mother) Mary Butterfield. In 1901 the Hammond family were living at Emily Terrace, Emily Street. I haven't been able to trace him on the 1891 census. I get 2 results 1 born 1872 and 1 1879 so I am a bit stuck at this point.

Hi
Alison
I will have a look at my info in the next day and see what I can find for you. Its been ages since I looked at my tree to be honest.
You managed to trace the Butterfield line back to Lutterworth?

Re: Thomas D Hammond (b1839) look up please

Hi, no I haven't traced them to Lutterworth. My grandfathers mother was Elizabeth (Betsy) Butterfield and her parents were Richard and Mary. Betsy was a sister to Ellen who married Thomas D Hammond. Betsy married Hugh Caffery and in 1902 my grandfather Hugh was born, in 1904 Hugh Snr died, he was only 25. I don't know what happened to Betsy after that, I have found a marriage for an Elizabeth Caffery to a William Green in 1925 so not sure if that is her. A William Green was a witness at my grandfathers wedding in 1930 so maybe he was his stepfather. I will have to send for the marriage certificate of Elizabeth Caffery and William Green before I get any further.
