Grove Lane Farm Handsworth

I think that's Grove Farm in post #1. If so, it's a substantial farmhouse and was also known as Kents Farm. Location for the image below is given as the junction of Grove Lane and Hinstock Road. Grove Lane swimming baths were built on the site in 1907. Source : Birmingham Archives.

earliest reference was a marriage announcement in 1859 of the daughter of the late Mr G Hailstone of Grove Farm Handsworth.
1851 census does not name the farm but does have a George Hailstone listed as a farmer.
(I haven't posted it as the writing is very faint).
 
I expect Grove 'Lane' Farm Handsworth is the same farm. If so, it dates back to at least 1814 - borne out by the style of front doorway visible in the photo.

James Hosier is another name linked to Grove Farm in the 1860s. Possibly a farm employee, not sure.

I saw the reference to James Hosier but as he was linked to selling items etc (one ad selling lambs and ewes) I wondered if he was the "estate agent" or whatever they were called back then

Agree Janice. He was named in connection with selling ewes and lambs at the farm address, so probably employed and/or selling on behalf of the farm owner.
 
Just tried to find hm on the 1871 census but the only James Hosier who comes up and is also in all the directories is a baker of Lozells Road. So I need to search a bit more.
 
An aside, but could be connected. Given that this farm must date from at least the early 1800s, I wondered if it was originally the farm for Grove House (Handsworth, not to be confused with Grove House, Harborne). It's a possibility I suppose. If so Grove House survived, I think, into the 1960s or a bit later.
