Hello,

I am currently researching The Grove Cinema, now a bathroom shop, on Dudley Road.

If you have any information/photos/memories I would be really grateful.

Thank you!

My husband says Petula Clark opened a Saturday Club there but he was ill that day. Possibly it was around 1945.
rosie.

The Grove on Dudley Road wasn't near to me in Bearwood, so I didn't go there until I was a teenager. I think I saw 'Enter the Dragon' there. Always went there with my mates rather than dating. This probably limited memories too. They sold a vile orange drink Kia-ora but all cinemas did!

The short 'The Saturday Men' features a young Bobby Robson and Don Howe. A gem is Don Howe age 26 playing footy with his 6 year old. His wife Pauline holds the toddler-- wearing an apron, she's about 24. Different times!
Struck gold on Youtube though.

Hello Harriet!
If this is a college project then you may have access to The British Newspaper Archive which in an on-line database you can search for the Grove Cinema which will show you which films were shown. (Assuming that is useful) https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results?basicsearch="grove cinema"&phrasesearch=grove cinema&place=birmingham, warwickshire, england&retrievecountrycounts=false&mostspecificlocation=birmingham, warwickshire, england&sortorder=score
And good luck!
