Hi,

This is a long shot and quite vague information. Can anyone help with a small greengrocers on Farm Street, think it is in Aston. The name of the people that ran it could be Vice or similar sounding.

Thanks in anticipation of any help.

Maureen.

Hi maureen

Have you got a rough date when this was. no matter how approximate it would be a help.

There was a Thomas Voice, greengrocer, at no 71 (corner Ventnor st) in 1912, Mrs Margaret Voice 1921, and Frederick George Voice in 1932 and 1933. No voices and wasn't a greengrocer in 1940 . In 1908 it was Mrs Racheal Betts, greengrocer.

Hi Phil,

Got to be 1930/40's. Information gathered from a conversation between my 85 year old Mum and her 90 year old Uncle, so I cannot be sure that all is accurate.

Thank's for your interest.
Regards Maureen.

Hi maureen

I went down the list for Farm St in the 1937 Kelly's, these are the only greengrocers listed.

221 Ellingworth Geo.
252 Dewhirst Wm.
340 Derby Gladys.

The only name that could sound anything like Vice was,

331 Price Edith.R. shopkeeper.

So it looks that this information, combined with what Mike has discovered may mean your information may not be accurate, can you not go back to the source and check it out.

It may be me being a non-brummie, but to me Vice and Voice sound similar

Hi Mike,

Thank you so much for the information. After a quick check with Mum and she with her Uncle it appears that Fred Voice is the chap they remember. He married Nell (Ellen/Helen)Pound, Mum's Aunt and Uncle's half sister. The more information I can find, the more their memmories are stirred which can only be to their good.

Regards, Maureen.

I was just giving maureen another choice as she wasn't sure of her names or facts, and the fact that you had already mentioned Frederick George Voice combined with the fact that he does not get a mention in the 1937 Kelly's is the reason I never made mention of him.

Anyway you were here long enough to at least get the hint of a brummie accent, I can see it in the way you write.

Phil
