GREEN William Henry Ladywood

jjuj

master brummie
Hello Everyone,

I have recently joined the site. An Ex Brummie living in Shropshire. I am trying to trace my mothers GREEN family tree. Winifred Dorothy GREEN b 1924. d 2005 Grandfather William Henry GREEN b March 1885. d 1961 married to Gertrude May Walls 1918. b Dec 1899 d April 1945.
Grandfather’s mothers surname COULTHARD. Her parents [COULTHARDS] were apparently missionaries or government employees in China!!

William Henry GREEN had two brothers. Percy & Henry [Harry}
Percy married Lucy. Henry [Harry] never married. He immigrated to America before 14/18 war. But had to return to England when war broke out, but he returned to America after the war and died there around 1955.
The GREENS were all born in Sherborne Street, Ladywood, and the COULTHARDS – Pritchard Street, Aston and the Sandpits?

Winifred had two sisters, Jean May & Gertrude Lillian [Lily] brothers William & Dennis.

I have no records this information is all from my elderly relatives memories and am not sure which paying site to sign up with - so many!

I would really appreciate any help you can give

Re: William Henry GREEN Ladywood

The DataProtection Act prevents us giving you any help with family who are assuned to be living. So the one thing we can do is point you in the right direction. There is a free site FreeBMD which has put Births, Marriages and Deaths on line. The site is esy to use, and you can order any B D or M certificates that you need by following their directions.

There is a very informative thread written by one of our members and I would urg you to read it, you will have all the info that you will need. I will come back with the link to it.

Re: William Henry GREEN Ladywood

I am sorry [newbee] but should have have known better. I will follow your advice.
Thank you

Re: William Henry GREEN Ladywood

Please don't appologise, not everyone is familiar with Data Protection. :)

Hi, I have the marr cert for William green & sarah jane coulthard. wiliam's father is thomas green shoemaker - i have sent for birth cert was 6d 137 but not right one - poor child was born in the workhouse

I have a thomas green b 1824 harborne m hannah pearce 1842 gloucester [dursley]. hannah born kngswood gloucester 1825. I felt sure this was correct parents for william. thomas & hannahs. marr cert fathers william green labourer - william pearce labourer. i have the greens in census 1851 - 1891.

After all that, the question is how can i find william's correct birth ref? :(
or maybe i have the wrong family for him? I hope all this makes sense, and that someone can help
Jean

Re: William Henry GREEN Ladywood

He could have been born in 1853 ref 6d 113. Would it be better if I came to birmingham to look it up? are you able to see certs before ordering? Sorry if I seem thick but have only ordered on line before!!

Re: William Henry GREEN Ladywood

hi jujuj
I Lived in ladywood when i was young and also remember the people of the greens
namely young henry green he was quite a clever lad at school and he was in the same class
at school with me [ steward st ] ladywood i lived in Kingedwards rd ladywood
and the green family lived in shakespear rd [ ladywood ] which is very close to the sandpitts
which was a stone throw feom shakespear rd henry was a dark haired chubby lad he could look
After himself , mind you in those days you had to especialy in shakespear rd
and his father worked at Radex limited in Edwards rd
he was in the maitence dept of the compamy he worked along my oldest brother whom was also
in the maintence team . i also worked there my self i was a machinest there
it was a electrical manufact; made fires .plugs and a vaity of things it was a big company
i remember them very well
if you check the early 1950,s through to the sixtes they should be on the electrol register
on shakespear rd , i remember henry very well at first i thought it was an unsual name [ Henry ]
when we was at school i thought for a boy
i do know they was there in the mid 50,s but i do not know where they went to
but i do know they was hard and good hard working and respectable family
i am trying to recall whom there neibours was
it could have been a family called Cunninghams , I knew alot of familys in and around that area
the sand pitts , garbett st , alexader st anditon st st marks st king edwards rd little and the lage one
nelson st but this greens is the one
have a nice day to be safe on your check on the electrol roll, from late forty- to mid 50,s
you should find them i cannot recall how the numbers started from the top of the rd or the bottom
i would think our friend mossy would recall how the numbers went he was feom shakespear rd
in is younger days as i recall with a few other friends of is and mine
have a good day best wishes Astonian ;;

Re: William Henry GREEN Ladywood

Hi Astonian, thank you very much for your reply and for all the facinating information you remembered. The greens you have mentioned maybe another branch of the family. my green family lived in sherborne street ladywood from about 1891 to the mid 1960's. We lived opposit the Birmingham Guild factory. I went to have a look around a few months ago - it's all changed now, but they have still not built on the site where our house used to be. There's a big tree where the front door was! But it's had forty years to grow:rolleyes:
Take care Jean
