I am trying to trace Green line in my family.

I have a Harry (possibly Henry) Green born 1901, married Doris Dearden Apr 1920. This was quite an interesting relationship ending with them splitting up in 1938 with 3 children. They lived on Ansell Road, and owned a garage around there somewhere.

But the family may be better known for the business S. Green & Sons LTD Hauliers and Contractors.

This is where I get stuck, I have found the business on Ancestry in the telephone directories at 46 Clifford Street, Lozzells in 1922 thru 1927

This business was nationalised by the BTC in 1948 & by then Harry was a very wealthy man.

I am trying to find Harrys Father & brothers, his father was called Samuel on Harrys wedding certificate but I can't seem to find any more records of Samuel or the family.

Any help on the Green family or the business would be great, I am now paying for information from the National Archives to try and shed some light on the rest of the family.

Thanks in Advance
Phil

Re: S Green & Sons Ltd

Thanks Suzzane,

I'll have a dig around, I can't see why Harry wouldn't be living with his parents. I will see if I can find another connection to the Brindley Family

Wow Suzzane how did you find that so quick,

I struggle to find information past the 1911 census, where do you find the 1920 & 1925 information.

Thanks again, you're a star,

Re: S Green & Sons Ltd

Thanks again for your help, the 1911 Census showing Harry living with Grandparents is the break I was after together with the 1920/25 Electoral rolls to back it up.

I'm digging thru the older Census's now,

Cheers

From Kellys directories;

1913 and 1915 No Samuel Green or Harry Green in haulage or similar profession listed either in Clifford St or elsewhere. Arthur Brindley shopkeeper is listed at 63 with his coal yard at an unnumbered address on the other side of the street

1921 46 Clifford St Green Samuel & Sons, motor haulage contrctr

1932 - 1944 Green S.& sons motor Haulage contractors 229 Tyburn Road.

By 1949 it is Green S. & Sons (B.T.C.) Ltd. motor haulage contrctrs.229 Tyburn rd.
In the electoral roll: at no 46 Clifford St:
1920 William Samuel & Edith Green
1925 William Samuel, Edith and Harry Green listed at “next56” Spring Hill Road
William Samuel and Edith Green listed at 46 Clifford St. as their abode
Harry Green listed as abode at “5 back 156” Spring hill
( Am not sure what the Spring hill road entry means)

Re: S Green & Sons Ltd

hi mike
i notice you are detecting the greens family aroud the springhill area
well it maybe a coincidence and pecular that during the fiftys there was a green family living in shakespear rd in the same rd as mossy and afew of my old mates of mine and as sure god made little green apples i am convinced that the young lad at the time during the early fiftys was called henry
and his father whom name i cannot recall worked with oldest brother at raydex electricicals in edward st lady wood was a green as well
the little lad i knew could be his fathers brother and there may be a connected to the greens but as now i am saying that there was a watty green the book makers along the springhill whom i used to go into and also watty green senior was a boxer and in later life around the seventys i think is son became a boxer
so going bye what you have discovered this spring hill rd is where you are coming from
i don,nt want to confused anybody on this but i think you are in the right direction
i do not have any details but i have been thinking from day one
and the more i think of the coinicidence this lad was henry and he went to steward
school first and i cannot think which one of the other schools he went to i am inclined to think he went to barford rd this young lad of watty green senior did have a big fight on telly one he did not win when he should have done but i was not as good asis dad
i truly beleive there is a connection with your green ;
best wishes astonian ;;
