Grave in Witton Cemetery

Hello,

Took the attached pictures of a grave in Witton Cemetery yesterday, it is on the left of the main road just before it reaches the Island at the opposite end to the Church.

A couple of things took my interest, one it is a fairly unusual and ornate monument being a Light House but with a very simple plaque on it to an "Ernest W Beston”. Secondly all of the birds on the monument had no heads. I know this could have been simple vandalism at some point but their is no sign of vandalism on any other monuments in the area.

Does anyone know anything about this Grave?

I have googled the name and it refers back to posts on this forum. Use the search option and it may help you. Some one has done some research on Bestons of Fermwood . They had journalistic links and were quite high society. ...arkrite.

Hi Zak,

The latin inscription translates as: " On thee repose all the hopes of your family and race". Will be interesting to find out who he was.

Thank you Zak for the photos and to Alf for the link to that fascinating thread. That O.C. was some researcher. I wonder if he is still out there lurking.

This is what I like about the BHF. When you click on the site it might be a so-so visit or you may leave with fantastic stories about people and places. What else lies hidden in the vaults. I have a job keeping up with the daily through put let alone rummaging through the archives

Thanks again all for a great start to the day......arkrite.

Arkrite as the comedian Victor Borge used to say Its In The Book:)
