Can someone please help me with this, what does "Class L" mean on my Grandads medal card.

Thank You,
Barrie.

Thanks Alf. Would the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry be counted as a Home Counties Regt then?

I think it might mean he was entitled to the 1914 clasp,

Clasps

  • 5th Aug.-22nd Nov. 1914
    • Instituted in 1919 and awarded to those who had operated under enemy fire during this period

Thank you for that Brummie-Nick, unfortunately he didn't arrive in France until Sep 1915, so he would not have qualified.

To me, I would say it says 'Class Z'.

Class Z was the standard route out of military service for wartime volunteers and conscripts to the regular army. It meant that the soldier could return to civilian life but subject to being recalled if required, for twelve months after discharge. In the event, no Class Z men were recalled and the Class was abolished in March 1920.
