The pictures of pheasants on the Garden Thread reminded me of Bill Maynard. Have a good Xmas if I get banned...
Years ago I was in the Plough and Harrow Hotel when Bill Maynard checked in. He had been booked as an after dinner speaker possibly by Round Table and he saw the order of business for the dinner and went off the deep end because they had scheduled someone to speak after him. He said that was an insult to an entertainer of his status.
 
A bit of a high & mighty attitude, David, though I'd never met him so can't really justify commenting further. However, I have met/worked with such as Bob Monkhouse and Ron Moody and both were charming people. I guess he was still trying to make it to the top of the tree, but I don't think he ever did.
