goldburgs ladies and children clothing

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
HI LADIES
Did any of you ladies ever buy your nylon stocking or the pinafor for wearing around the house from old goldburgs on lichfield rd aston next to thompson
the meat shop or ever buy your tripe from them as it was sold quite alot just at the end of the war
do any of you recall the wire aov the customers with a big bras knob they put the money inafter the sale of your bought goods
the asistant woul put your money in it and send it flying above you to the office and your change would come flying back from the office to hand it back by the
sales person then the introduction of the big old fashion tills came into use best wishes Astonian;; Alan ;;;

Alan, I remember Goldbergs very well, and one item I recall was a pair of green and white striped pyjamas with white borderie anglais trim, the legs were quite short finishing just below the knee, they were about 9/l1d old money and I thought they were very trendy.

I also remember Heath's China Shop which was close by or did they move into Goldbergs shop when it closed? I bought quite a few pieces from there when I was getting married, and my husband bought me a pair of small china horses, which unfortunately over the years got broken.

hi sylvia
Nice to hear from you again i hope you are well i thought no one would remember goldbirgs actualy but i must admitt i do recall heaths china shop
but in the sme token i never remembere the name of heatons i should have done as you know i lived virtualy thirty yads away up the terrace
i was always in that goldburgs either with my mother or haveing to fetch a new pinofore for her or may be her stockings
i thik she used to say asked the ldy fo an xox size piofore or it was safety pins as well as she had alot of kids then she ended up with ten of us i think the old man
was trying to set up a foot ball team she was a good looking woman in her younger days but haveing kids destroyed her and put on weight
and her social life went out the window for the rest of her life , [ still such as life ]as one would say; heaths had alot o good things in there shop and in the window
we got our cups from there he was cheaper than the dents hardware shop he had every think but pricey
did you know of the sargents family there used to be big hoarding just passing heaths and there house was up there as kids we always had a little gang fight
we was only about ten years old me and my mate colin whom lived next to astons the cake shop
sylvia; di you ever use the little cobbler shop acros the rd harold lloyed apparently he was a scouser and he repaired our shoes and my aunts sjhoes but he went further andmovd in whith her for a couple of years and chipped and cobbled her money out of her and then deserted her and went back to liverpool the bounder
still she was warned by her family about him the brothers told her and they fell out with her for fory years and vowed not to cross the fresh hold until he had gone

Hi Alan I do remember mom taking me in a shop next to Thompsons but I was still in my pushchair. I guess it is the one you are talking about?. Jean.

Hi Alan, sorry I didn't know any of the families who lived in Lichfield Road, and we used to have our shoes repaired at Neal's in Park Lane, Aston, you probably remember a large painting on the wall next to the shop of a policeman showing the soles of his shoes, everyone who used the No.8 bus up or down Park Lane would have seen it.
