George Dallow, Corn Merchant

Re. George Dallow, corn merchant, Garrison Lane, Birmingham.

Through the very kind help of several members I have now been able to learn where my ancestors corn merchants business was based --
George Dallow ran his corn & flour business in Garrison Lane, Birmingham.
The last known entry to me was in 1914 -- I know that when he retired, George Dallow & his wife Ada moved to Catshill, Bromsgrove where he died in 1930. I have no idea when he would have retired and moved from Birmingham to Worcester.
Could any kind person help me please and look in any directories between 1915 - 1930 in order for me to try to learn of when he ended his business in Birmingham in order to retire to Worcs.

Your help is very much appreciated.
Thank you.
Brock.

in 1915 kellys george dallow draper 121 &123 garrison lane, & grocer

178 & 180 garrison lane.

Thank you for looking for me Shera, it's most appreciated.
It's interesting to see that the property at 178 - 180 Garrison Lane is referred to as a grocers as this was the property previously referred to as the corn & flour merchants. Every marriage & birth certificate at this time has him recorded as a corn factor and I know that it was this business which brought him his wealth so I am surprised that he doesn't report the property as corn & flour rather than grocers as in earlier times as he always seemed to want to promote this part of his business which he seemed most proud of.
Another member mentioned that many grocers and corn/flour merchants were often combined businesses so although it doesn't specifically mention the corn merchant side of his business it still places him in the same place which is of great help to me.

With many thanks,
Brock.

Here is a copy of a portion of the Alan Godfrey map of 1901 showing the southern part of Catshill. I believe the northern part of the village is on map ref 57.08, entitled Brownhills by the Ordnance Survey but available from Alan Godfrey who gives the best service of any supplier that I deal with.

This map is Brownhills Walsall would have been Staffordshire in 1902
Catshill Bromsgrove is Worscestershire
Catshill is just the other side of the Lickey hills

Thank you for the map & for the advice -- I agree, the map does seem to be very well presented.
Thank you.
