When my Father left the army he took an interest in the garden, one day he gave my brother a bucket and spade and told him to go round the street and pick up the horse muck.
Someone had beaten him to it so my brother, not wanting to come home empty bucket picked up all the DOG muck he could find.
Dad was not pleased. :P :-[

When ever a horse came into our road, I was supposed to go out with a bucket and shovel and pick up the manure - 'os muck. I hated doing it, but there was an inquest if my dad heard that a neighbour had got there first.

I am glad I read that after dinner Aston, as we had rhubarb crumble for afters.

Our rhubarb grows like mad, amazing considering it has to tolerate freezing conditions for months. On the Handsworth allotments, my dad used to put an old bucket over it to force it. One of my favourite things to do, was go to the allotments every Sunday during the summer and buy a bunch of flowers. They would be for either my mom or grandmother who we visited every Sunday afternoon. On our way to Nan's we would pick up a Neapolitan block of ice cream and wafers from the sweet shop opposite the Albion Cinema..

Di I remember doing the same thing when the horses came down our road, we would see who could get it first. :2funny:

When our milkmans horse had left a "deposit" I would rush into the house and tell my Dad, that the horse had done his businness outside Mrs Halls house, my dad would send me with a bucket and shovell to ask her if she wanted it, if she said "no" then I had to ask if we could have it then. :-[

Thanks for the Spring garden photos Aston. Every Boxing Day, our local garden centre has a sale and they always have their expensive Tulip Bulbs on sale 80% off. I braved the cold and almost frozen ground and planted 60 tulips and two weeks ago 50 King Alfred daffodils. They always come up in record time which is amazing.

We have an oval bed in the garden which self seeds. Normally we thin it and make it more formal but this year I just loved the colours of the Calandula Marigolds, Pansy's and Candy Tuft. Mo
