G. P. O Engineering Department

My great uncle, Leonard Styles, was a cable jointer employed at the GPO Engineering Dept at 42 Paradise Street, Birmingham.
Does anyone have any info on this site, or where their employee records might be kept? Thank you.

More likely Daimler House at 32 Paradise Street, which was at least 5 floors and multiple occupants. Maybe an office for recruitment, but a jointer would not be employed from there.

Could it have been part of the former GPO building on Paradise Street (not the Victoria Square building) ? See pink map. I think this building existed into the 1950s.

All were government departments (at that time, including the GPO).
The 1921 Directory has these entries

These were all government departments (at that time, including the GPO). No coincidence, I expect, that they were all located alongside each other.

Was the PO Power Engineers premises on the site of the old Barker and Barker Unity Works? I can't work out the numbering on the maps. Barker and Barker moved out in 1903.

Maybe for Leonard Styles and maybe other employees had this as an address for wages and PAYE type details. Although living in South Devon my employer was listed as Devon County Council in Exeter for example and on retirement from the fire service further job listed me under Plymouth.
