Frankfort street, Hockley

Does anyone have any photos or knowledge Jackson family. Frankfort street my grandad had the fuel station. Joe Jackson Also wheeler family I believe lived on Cowper street my mom was born there they had a bookies

Thank you my dad no longer with us and it was his dad who started the business in 1928. In 1962 there was a fire at the petrol station does anyone have any news paper clipping about this please.

Hi Jean, I have only just come across your post. My surname is Madden and a lot of my ancestors lived around that area. Although I haven't come across any Maddens living in Frankfort St., the 1912 census has my grandfather James Bernard Madden living alongside his brother William and mother Winifred in Hospital Street at no 47. Winifred had 8 siblings named Madden (James and William were both illegitimate, father's name Cunningham). I would be interested to know which of the Madden families you remember as they may well be later generations of my great aunts and uncles.
Incidentally my maternal Grandmother lived at no 28 Frankfort Street when her first husband enlisted in 1917.
My father came from Belfast after the war and married my mother. I was born 1948!and shortly after moved to Frankfort St. I went tonSt Mathias school on Farm St, the we moved to Kellet Rd Nechells around 1959.

It was a surprise to read your post about there being other Maddens. The other relatives of my Dad is Neal and Anniie, but they moved back to Ireland.

Hi,

does anyone know or remember much about Jackson's garage which established on Frankfort st? this was my grandfather and id love to know more even see pictures.
also in Hockley the bookies which was ran by Joseph wheeler unsure what road that was on. all is my family history so would really like to get more information
thank you
I do, the bedroom windows overlooked the garage. One day, guess I was around 7yrs of age, I set fure to the net curtains at the attic window () and a man came rushing round to tell Mum. Also, I regular to take bets for my Dad across the road to a big rag & bone building. There was a wedding dress hanging from the rafters that would always get my imagination going.
