Franchise Street

According to Carl's book "The Streets of Brum pt 2" Franchise st was named because the 1832 Reform Act enabled people to join Freehold Land societies to build houses that then enabled those occupying them to vote. In 1848 8 acres of land near Perry Barr station were auctioned and this enabled the purchasers of the plots to obtain ther vote

thanks mike i didnt think to take a look in my brum pt 2 book...thats is interestering and does make sense
