Hi, was she still there in the 60’s? I grew up in the wool shop a few doors down and remember getting sweets from there. 1d Cadbury bar of chocolate, cones of pineapple chunks etc and Lucky bags! Was the pork butcher next door?

Hi, My sister married Roger Morcom the younger brother of David and Brian. Their Mom and our Mom who owned Barbara’s wool shop in Formans road were good friend.
Yes I remember it! I grew up next door in the wool shop in the 60’s and I remember getting fireworks from them too

My mom was a customer of the wool shop in Formans Road in the 1950s and 1960s. She knitted all the time when she wasn't working .... producing jumpers etc for herself, my brother and me. I often went into the shop with her, and was sent to pick up extra rolls when she ran out of wool.
I knew all the shops in that stretch of Formans Road .... and in the 1970s I worked as the "butcher's boy" delivering meat for Halliwell the butcher on the corner of Percy Road.

I grew Up on Percy Road in the 60s and 70s. I loved going to the wool shop on Formans Road with my Mum. The shop had a lovely smell and I liked looking at the honeycomb of shelves containing neatly piled balls of brightly coloured wool. There was a butchers next to the sweet shop and next to that a delicatessen/butcher that was owned by a gentleman called Stan.

If it’s the same lady, yes, and I think into the 1970s, a small dark haired lady with a bouffant hair style.
In the 1970s there were 3 butchers along that stretch. Coming down Formans Road from the Stratford Road, Stan’s more a delicatessen, then a butchers next to the sweet shop and further down a butchers shop called Franks.

I remember Halliwell’s/Hollowell it was a real old fashioned butchers shop with wooden floorboards and saw dust spread across the floor. In my memory Mr Halliwell was a tall thin man and always wore a whit apron. Being a very young child I didn’t like going in, it had that ‘butcher’s’ smell and Mr Halliwell always seemed a bit stern.

Bernie Scripps {Peter Benson) actually appeared in "Heatbeat" at "Aidensfield" along with his brother Vernon (Geoffrey Hughes) who was known for his adventurous business activities. There were others involved in the business, over a period of time, such as David Stockwell (David Lonsdale).

I was the "delivery boy" for Mr Hollowell in the early 1970s. I delivered meat to the homes of customers morning and evening on my bike .... mainly in the roads off Formans Road. You're right that it was an old style butchers. The meat was packaged up in greaseproof paper and brown paper tied off with string.
