Food Office Orange Juice

I was born in Billesley in 1946 and I remember going to the Welfare in Highfield Rd just behind Chinn Brook Rd Rec.for that Orange and also Cod liver oil. Funny thing is that now the same building is our local health centre and our Doctor has moved in! I still have a Cod liver oil capsule each day.......

I loved the Welfare orange in the medicine bottles, it was free to pregnant moms in the 60's. I was pregnant during the winter months of 59/60 and I liked to make a hot drink out of the orange. I would pour half the bottle and top it up with hot water and a spoon of sugar - I must have had a real sweet tooth in those days. I had just made a drink one day when the health visitor came to see me, she could smell the orange and asked me what it was. I was a bit miffed when she said that it was issued for the vitamines in it and by pourinig hot water on it I had killed the vitamins stone dead..........
