When my Great Uncle was killed on 25th September 1915 - the first day of The Battle of Loos in France, Lance Corporal Frederick Jones came across him or his remains & was kind enough to carry out my Great Uncle's final wishes. From his war record Frederick Jones, looks to have been taken prisoner of war at Nieuport on 10 July 1917, but who appears to have survived the war. First entry to a theatre on war in France on 13 August 1914, so presumably he was a pre-war regular.

From the information on the referenced cards, he was born in Birmingham, 12 March 1882, married, and his wife was living at 219 Belgrave Road, B??hall Heath, Birmingham. The other card referenced appears to give the address of a male relative then living at 33 Seymour Street, Birmingham.

I would like to find any descendents so I can tell them the story & thank them.
Thanking you for any help or suggestions as to how I may move forward.

Could be an error either way. That chap wasn't in Birmingham.
Frederick Jones is a common name and will so little other info it is tricky.
i agree jan its very tricky to pin him down...sometimes we just cant if the records or more info is not available

So it is a Frederick J Jones and not Frederick W Jones?

There is a birth reg. for a Frederick John Jones Mar qtr 1882, son of a John Robert Jones and an Ann Collins. He had several siblings and they lived in Sparkhill up to 1911. Family are there but he isn't. Can't be sure where is he in 1911 or if he is the correct person.

Searching military records for a Frederick Jones and service number 8148 brings up a pension record and from what I can see it suggests there's a next of kin listed.

On the POW record it has a "J". The one Lyn found with "W" has the right dob but we can't be certain. POW suggests he is married but we have no name.

He received a "silver war medal" so presumably was injured. The enlistment date if I have read it correctly suggests he was a regular soldier.
