Engine turner

Mr Zippy

master brummie
Any idea what an engine turner and engine erector did? This is a description from the 1861 census. Possibly associated with the railways, because the family moved around Birmingham, Swindon and London.

Thanks

Welcome Zippy I sure you made the right move re your Family History, well here anyway I did, so enjoy.:)

looking back into my family tree I did find that my gt gt granfather and his brothers were 'Engine Turners' on the census c1861 era...eventually found out after studies they were working on the railway turntables....obviously turning the locomotives (engines) ..so don't know if your family versions are the same
