End of an Era

A very sad day today. I had to give up driving on medical grounds and saw my Corsa (overengineedred) drive off into the sunset. As I am currently immobile and rather housebound I never realised how much I relied on the car. Thank goodness for a very willing son and a good neighbour. I counted up the number of cars I had owned and driven since 1963 and was quite horrified by the number' Also at the topof the road, by the pub, there is a regular (by Stagecoach standards) bus service wich leads down the hill to a railway station.

Sorry to hear that Bob.
My Dad had Parkinson's and eventually had to stop driving - I believe he omitted to tell the licencing people for a while and then he had a bump in the car so he finally stopped.
It used to worry my Mom that he was driving when his reactions had slowed so she was somewhat relieved.

Edit: would you be able to get a mobility scooter?

I hope you adapt to life without your motor Bob, might be a blessing with the cost of running a car these days. I’m dreading when the time comes for me to hang up my car keys though, I still enjoy driving quite a lot and it gets me to the river bank for my fishing.

Hello. I know how you feel. Covid found us having our food deliveries nearly two years ago and we did not use the car quite as frequent. Then two years ago I had a stroke. I decided then that i would sell the car as it would be a while since I could drive again and by that time I would be too old. You know Devon roads are very busy or dodgy in the countryside! ;)
I have a mobility scooter - four wheeler and reasonably big. No need for a fold up thing besides the road aren't even and they are limiting unless you still have a car. I get to all the places I visit despite this being a very hilly place. I have a 40 mile radius but have never travelled a quarter of that. We are very close to a local bus and both sons have a car.
Anyway I hope you health improves and you will get out again - with or without help.
You can pm me if you wish.

sorry to hear that Bob i hope you adapt we take it forgranted having the car,and sure do miss it when its gone but sometimes its for the best, best of luck hope your health improves.

So sorry to hear that. I had to sell my previous car, as for the same reason as Radiorails above, I needed to switch to an automatic. I too know what it is like to become more reliant upon your own set of wheels, although I don't get about as much or anywhere near as far, as I did five years ago. Public transport (if an option) can be very helpful where mobility is an issue (drivers & passengers are generally very understanding) and it's very good news that you have such a good lad and neighbour. Chin up and all the very best for the future Bob.
