Can anyone tell me if the Brown family were at 36 Sherbourne Road Balsall Heath in the 1930s please.
Looking for Thomas Joseph Brown, wife Sarah.
Alberta

Thanks Shera,
The problem I have is Doris May Brown my daughter in laws grandmother married in Dec 1934 father Thomas Joseph ,I am trying to find her birth but we do not know where she was born in 1911 and there are quite a few Doris May Brown births. She married from Sherbourne Road.
I have located a Thomas Joseph Brown marrying Sarah Bradley in 1903 and a Doris May mother Bradley in 1911 both Birmingham .
I thought if by chance they were all in Sherbourne road my problem would be solved.

the family you mention were living bk 21 icknield port rd. in 1911
thomas joseph brown 35 carter general haulier b. moseley, sarah 31 b. bham, thomas joseph 13, leslie 5 and austin 3. all b. moseley. just wondered if any of the childrens names rang a bell

Thanks Shera, Austin is a family name so this is the family.
My problem now is that the first child must have been from a previous marriage so will probably have to send for his birth certificate as I cannot identify either Thomas on the 1901 census.
For some reason Doris May was brought up in Father Hudsons but her father was still alive when she mmarried in 1934.

i see what you mean about the 1901 census!!

i have just found a thomas joseph brown at 120 sherbourne rd. in 1920 and living with him are eliza jane phipps and helen hazelwood

in the 1911 it says that thomas and sarah had been married 8 years. the previous marriage is probably the one in 1897 aston to either clara rodway or ann durham. im sure youve found that out anyway

in 1932 and 1933 kellys theres a miss doris brown at 209 walsall rd. perry barr. then in 1936 she is not there!

i live just round the corner from there by the way.

Just had a visit from my duaghter in law Tracey. Her aunt tells her that Doris had to leave the Home when she was a young woman and transfer to a Catholic hostel from where she was married.Does 209 Walsall Road look large enough to have been a hostel.
Thanks for all you info Shera,it is helping us to put the family back together again.
Tracey has also found out that her grandmother had brothers who were sent to Canada, life was certainly tough in those times.Alberta

209 Walsall road is listed in Kellys as a private residence. In 1932 and 1933 the occupant was Miss Doris Brown, and in 1935 it was William A. Brown.
