Good afternoon,

Does anyone remember Elan Express, very active in the eighties? I couldn't find a picture of one of trucks or vans only of one of our merchantman based in EMA at
the time. Thank you for your help.

All the best,

Bob (Elan, of course ;))

Can't help re Elan express but we used to refuel the Merchantman aircraft at Manchester Airport, these aircraft did the nightly mail flights, I think, as they were the only quiet aircraft allowed to take off after midnight.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, you're right we used to run flights to Cologne, Germany, Lille, France and Zaventem, Belgium. We had quite a colourful fleet,
as you can see below. Elan was a DHL subsidiary from the start; it was fully integrated with DHL in the early 90s.

Cheers,

I was driving night trunks for Elan International when they folded 1993/4. Turned up for work one night, there they was gone.! No warning at all but it was being run by a bunch of clowns.
Got myself another job next day.

I remember Elan as I worked in a portacabin for DHL Air Cargo in 1982 in Unit 67 Gravelly Park Industrial Estate.
Later I worked in Elan’s Airside warehouse at East Midlands Airport custom clearing DHL’s courier and parcel bags.
When I lived in Hall Green I got a lift to East Midlands from Elan warehouse in Minworth (?)
Elan team at EMA were very friendly and we all took it in turns to get fish and chips from Keggy.
Quite hard working permanent nights - one particular night I walked out to Argosy aircraft and on the way back slipped on the ice and broke a bone in my wrist and that was the end.
For a short time I worked alone in Building 111 at the back of the petrol station

Did you trunk from Minworth (?) to East Midland Airport in the late 80s?

I’ve got a memory they moved from Gravelly Industrial Estate to Minworth but not 100% sure

Best wishes

John

There is an argosy is in a museum at the back of Ema airport - I believe they recently repainted it in Elan’s livery. I used to work on the Argosy on route dublin/ shannon/ cork
There is another Elan Argosy at Coventry airport
