I am looking for information about a George EGGINTON and his wife Sarah, George was a Jeweller and according to the 1841 census was born in about 1781 in Warwickshire and was living in Little Hampton Street, St Georges in Birmingham. His wife Sarah was born about 1786 in Warwickshire and I have found references to 4 daughters who’s births were recorded at the Cannon Street Meeting House these being Phoebe (1815), Mary Hannah (1818), Sarah (1822) and Emily (1824). Can anyone shed any more light on George and Sarah’s life as I have not been able to trace them before or after the 1841 Census.

Regards,
Ian

Shera,

Thankyou for this information, I tried looking for the family on the 1851 Census but could not find them, I will have to look harder next time.

I will have a closer look at the information and try and piece it together some of the references do definatley tie in with details I already have from the marriage certificate of George and Sarah's daughter Mary to a John BIDDLE, and I hope will give me new leads to follow up.

In addition to the 1849 whites from Shera, there is the following;

1823 No George Egginton listed
1829 Egginton George,. steam engine model and philosophical instrument maker,
18, Livery-st.
1833 Egginton George, steam engine model maker, 33, Lt. Hampton-st
1839 Egginton George, jewellers ear ring joint maker, 33, Little Hampton street
1841 Egginton George, jewellers' ear ring joint maker, 35 Little Hampton st
1845 Egginton & Carter, gold & silver swivel makers, 26 Constitntion hill
1851 Egginton. George. Hosier . 217 Ashted Road. Cecil st
1851 Egginton Hannah (Mrs.), dressmaker. 19 Howard st
1855 Egginton Hannah (Mrs.), millincr & dressmaker. 19 Howard st
1855 Carter John, manufacturer of gold & silver swivel split rings, ear
wires &c. 26½ Constitution hill
1858 Egginton George., jeweller, Constitution hill; home, Geach st
1862 No mention of George or Hannah

So it looks like George went in to business with Mr Carter, and then split.
There were other Eggintons, but have only included the above as relevant at present
Mike

In case it is relevant, there is an entry for 1829 to;
Biddle John and Co. cut flint and window glass manufacture. Birmingham-heath
If you want me to folloe up in other directories, let me know

Mike,
Thankyou for your reply, at the moment I do not believe that the John Biddle you have found in the trade directories as a Cut Flint and Window Glass Manufacturer is the husband of Mary Egginton.
I have now found a marriage between Phoebe Egginton and a John Carter on the 1st September 1835 at St Phillip, Birmingham so it may be George's Son in Law that he was in buisness with for a period.
Ian.
