Edward Road, Balsall Heath

Came across this Edwardian phot on ebay and thought what a gem it is. The old police station on the left and the row of lovely cast iron posts for supporting the tram powercable. Single track. I really appreciate these old street scenes as built before"improvements" to them

Edward Road was always single track. It served what was known as the Cannon Hill Loop on route 37 and the 39 to Alcester Lanes End. Both were replaced by the extended bus route 48 in October 1949. The ornate decoration on the traction poles were discontinued I think at an early date. There is a photo of similar ones in Erdington.

According the website it is only open on a Wednesday. Between 11am and 1pm and 4pm to 6pm.
