Durows Henry

Bob Davis

Bob Davis
Henry Durows was born about 1809 (according to IGI). He died in 1854, this is recorded both IGI and Freebmd. He married a lady called Jane (from Worcestershire) and they had a number of children, only the last one born after his death is recorded in Freebmd. His wedding is not in Freebmd. One of his sons (my ggrandfather) is recorded as marrying in 1872 at St Martins as Francis William Douro, he married Emily Doody. The name has been misspelt throughout their lives - Darrows is another version. I have traced most of Francis's family and they are well recorded in Freebmd. He was an electro plater and finished up in the asylum at Rubery. He is buried in Witton. They are identifiable in all the census from 1851 onwards. The question is where were Henry and Jane married and what was Jane's last name. Although his beginnings are given as Staffordshire and hers as Worcestershire, I have assumed that these are King's Norton, Harborne etc as the families seemed to be settled in this area, Francis William lived in a back to back off Icknield Street. Any clues would be gratefully received. There are a number of Durows kin worldwide looking for the answer.

Re: Henry Durows

If you've found one of the children on freebmd, then the best place to start would be to order the birth certificate. It should (hopefully) give you the mother's maiden, which should help with the marriage.

Henry Durows was buried on 3 December 1854 at St Thomas' Birmingham aged 45 address given on burial record is Cregoe Street.

The births of the 2 children listed with them in 1851, Henry and Elizabeth are on freeBMD listed as Durose in Kings Norton. It seems Elizabeth's death is also listed in 1851.

Many thanks to all of you, I must admit although I have a huge collection of births, deaths and marriage certificates, it never occurred to me that on the certificate of the last child the mothers maiden name would still appear. Where was Cregoe Street and also where was St Thomas's? Ill recheck the Durose entries. I know that they are entered as Darrows in the 1851 census

This may be irrelevant but an Edward Darrows born abt 1854, son of Henry (deceased) married in 1892 a Mary Ann Jackson at St Clements in Nechells. The address for Edward is Argyll Street.
