Duddeston Mill Road Crossing

Those who read th 150a cutting concerning a ago thread will have seen a cutting on 9th August concerning a dangerous footbridge which had recently been erected over the railway at Duddeston Mill road. I enquired for further information with the Warwickshire railways site, and they knew nothing of it, but were very interested. Further research has produced more information and a long story, which has just been added to the site at https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/duddeston-road.htm

Very interesting Mike, living just off Duddeston Mill Road as I did I have always thought that the railway bridge must have been there before the road itself, because of the way that the hill is suddenly steeper under the railway itself. Mike was the road ever called just Duddeston Rd as it is referred to as such on several of the photos, and this is something I did not know.

No it was not to my knowledge. The photos were on the site before they were put together to go with this text. In each case, I think, it is used as part of a name for a signal box. I will query the name with mike on the site

Have received a reply which follows:

Hi Mike

You might recall I clarified with you at the outset as to the correct title of the road. It would appear the name on the Signal Box - under any of the railway companies which operated the signal box (MR, LMS or BR) - never included the word 'Mill' in the title of the three signal boxes erected at this site. The second Signal Box is absolutely filthy when DJ Norton photographed it on 5th July 1953 see https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/mrdr1010.htm however on the original photo there is evidence of at least one large letter (probably a 'J') with what appears to be two half letters with the top of all three aligned following the title Duddeston Road. I take this to be Jcn which is a standard abbreviation for Junction. On the third signal box there are only two words 'Duddeston Road' see https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/mrdr999.htm. Therefore in my opinion you could use either Duddeston Road Signal Box or Duddeston Road Junction Signal Box but not Duddeston Mill Road Signal Box with or without adding the word Junction.
I have therefore tried to adopt the use of Mill when talking about the road, the word Junction when referencing the era covered by the second signal box and Duddeston Road when referring to the era of the third signal box.

Mike also added "You might also state that we would welcome any other railway information / photos that people might wish to share."
