Dr John Ash painting by Reynolds

It looks as though another historic painting may be lost from Birmingham see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-17922886

The portrait of Dr John Ash was painted in 1788 by renowned artist Sir Joshua Reynolds.
It is being sold by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity

Dr John Ash founded Birmingham's first hospital, the General Hospital. The painting shows the hospital and its plans, and originally hung in the boardroom.

The Museum and Art Gallery are trying to raise the money to buy it, but needs to raise another £700K. Let's hope they get the Lottery Grant that they have applied for.

Hopefully, the BAGM can raise the money to buy this painting. Once such items are gone from the city it is likely that they
will never come back.

It is awful to lose more heritage, why can't the council use some of their arts money for it?
It's also a shame that the hospitals need to rely on sales like this to keep going!

can't the Birmingham Mail do a feature on it, there may be some local people who would contribute to keep it in Brum?
I will send a letter to the Editor.

I know this is slightly off thread but one wonders how much money there is available to The Museums and Art Gallery ?, 1st we lose the Transport Museum and then Dolman St where all the items not on show at the Museum are stored ,being disowned by the council and is now a charitable organisation !!! ( they need a good fund raising manager as on my last 2 visits there they hadnt even got collection boxes on show ) .
