Your dad and mine would surely have known each other. I do recall a Bert Taylor who drove with dad. His nickname was "Spud" and I got a slap from dad for calling him Uncle Spud.

they sure did a good job we took many a motor there

Dowding & Mills was bought by Sulzer in 2010. It has been since renamed to Sulzer Electro Mechanical Services (UK) Limited

My dad was a driver there for decades - Raymond Dalton. I think his radio call sign was Dowding Dog (I went out in the lorry with him once, if I remember correctly).

Anyone here worked there when it was situated in Camp Hill? My dad worked there from early 70s to 2021.

He remembers when it was off Bradford Street where someone loaded a machine on a truck without tying it down, it slid off and crashed into a mini. :D

An old pal of mine, and a ex member of this site "Berniew", started as an apprentice electrician with Dowding and Mills around 1964 and worked there for most of his working life. Sadly Bernie is no longer with us.
