This one Postie was slightly difficult to pin down in terms of the view today. I thought it was at the top of Douglas Road but couldn't at first get the buildings to match up. But it definitely is the top if Douglas Road. This is the present day view:
The two genteel ladies in their lovely frocks are probably on their way to Handsworth Park for an afternoon stroll and are standing just below the present day satellite dish! Maybe they've first popped into the shop a little further down. The buildings next to the dish going down the street are, however, altered. This is why it was difficult to match up the old and new views. The upper storeys of the two buildings (immediately behind the ladies) have been re-built. (WW2 bomb damage perhaps?)
Next to the shop with the awning you can just make out an alleyway entrance probably to the rear of the shop. I think this view would be the alley entrance.
Unbelievably most of the Victorian buildings along Douglas Road are still there, with the usual changes to windows, doorways etc. One major difference though: rubbish on the street (but maybe it was bin collection day), satellite dishes and cars parked all along.
Thanks for posting. Viv.
