hi everyone just a little note to say that due to the pandemic and apart from private donations we have lost an awful lot of revenue owing to the fact that we have not been able to hold at least 5 forum meet ups which thanks to the raffles we hold generates a large portion of revenue to keep this forum up and running.. as most of you know the forum is free to join but not free to run... a lot of our members are only too happy to help other members with various enquires be it looking for old photos..maps or family research to those who are not subscribed to genealogy sites..if any members feel that they can donate however small it would help greatly...the boss does not know that i am making this post and rather than ask himself he will pay out of his own pocket so i will probably get the sack when he finds out  :D but i think now is the time to make members aware that every little helps...many thanks folks the link to donate is below

Yes the forum deserves a donation.Even though I very rarely ask any forum members for help this forum gives me alot of pleasure especially the garden topic and the old photos that are sent down by other members. So put your hands in your pockets and get rid of them moths ha ha !!!

As a newbie I did'nt know if there was any particular time of year to donate so I did it last week.
Even though I dont have a Paypal account it was the easiest way to do it.
I am also a member of a football forum that is free but there are loads of adverts on there which can spoil it at times but I think sometimes people dont realise the costs involved.
These forums bring a lot of pleasure and I am more than happy to make a contribution when I can.

Ken, I don’t know if there is a particular time, it came into my head last night to do it. I also think it is a very worthwhile cause. I am sure one of the moderators can clarify.

Thank you to everyone who made a donation, it really does make a great deal to the continued running of the Forum, especially as we haven't been able to hold our meet ups., due to the present restrictions.
Once again thank you to all the members and please stay safe.
Jim aka postie...

I’m all for donating but I do need a nudge to remind me to do so which I appreciate. Would it be possible to set up a direct debit for donations, it would be easier for me and perhaps a few more. Just a thought G.

hi grea good idea...

if you go to post 1 of this thread and click on the donation link it gives you the bank account details of where to set up a direct debit to if that is easier for you...have to say thats its not jim because he never would ask its mainly me who sometimes reminds our newer members that we do rely on donations to run the forum...never the technical one i do know that money has to be paid for things like upgrades..security ..server fees..new routers if needed etc and since covid hit us we have lost out on at least 4 forum meets ups which with our raffle money combined could keep the forum running for about 18 months so it does worry me that jim will without saying anything pay out of his own pocket if we have a short fall..then we have jims son warren who is the technical whizz who like moderators give our time freely... we need no thanks as its all done with a good heart to keep this great forum within reach of our members....

thank you to everyone who donates... no matter how little because as the saying goes...every little really does help:)

Hello Grea, you should be able to set up automatic transfers periodically or when you wish. I can’t from the U.S. but I do contribute to our church every month.

Is there somewhere that explains the basis of this forum?

Is it privately hosted?

Does it exist as a trust, charity or extended personal hobby etc.?

I am sure people would like to know what they are contributing towards and also whether there is some sort of continuity plan that doesn't just depend on one key person. All websites only exist as long as the domain name keeps being paid for and someone hosts the contents.
