Do You Still Carry Scars

Alf

Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.
Right elbow from falling against a large Tree trunk in Perry Hall Park when out with my late Sister & Gran.

Small right Finger out of shape playing Cricket in the Playground.

Deformed Right hand thumb trapped in Train door during the War 1941 or 42.

Right thigh falling on to Barred Wire behind the Snooker Hall on Collage Road near the Mayfair Cinema 1947

Scar on Left Hand working on a lathe at Amal when I was 16. 1952

Thats all for now I will examine the rest of my body later tonight.:)

These memories prompted by Keith Waterhouse

Dear Alf...amateur...

Left Shin, 1ins scar caused by slipping off a Zinc cold water tank aged 13.
Left eye (just to the side) scar caused by an homemade arrow fired by Ray Gregory...I was 14.
Sole of my left foot, nail scar caused by jumping off a wall onto a plank..aged 10
Scar on my right ear caused by my sister cutting my hair, she missed..
Right hand, right small finger, cut to the bone by falling glass as I worked below a skylight aged 21.
Scar across my forehead, weight lifting accident aged 16..
Scar on my left hand, caused by slipping with a stanley knife.
Scar between my nose and lip, caused by a drill tip shattering and going straight through it...I was 36
Scar on my left arm, piece of a chisel flying off and going in to a depth of one inch.

Scar going through my left knee (entry and exit holes)
Scar on my right arm, near the top,
7 scars under my right armpit,
Scar across my top lip..
Scar on my right hip
Three more scars on my right side of body.
all the above caused by shrapnel from Tavern in the Town bomb explosion.

I cant wait to see what today brings...

Alf..... That's an amazing list of scars for sure.
Kandor...your list is even more amazing. You have had some very lucky
escapes so far in your life. You are certainly "scarred for life" as they say.
Both of you recall time and place. Some things you don't forget.

I don't have hardly any compared to you two.

An half inch dent in my right leg from being cut by a marble gravestone
whilst playing in Witton Cemetery- aged 7 years

Bit of a bent and scarred little finger and wrist after my hand was run over on Marsh Hill one late afternoon in November l948 by a car after walking out from behind a bus. Wrist was badly broken.

Scar on knee from landing in gravel after coming down one
of those large slides in a playground in Kingstanding l950.

Large scar below my right knee after falling down some concrete steps
approx ten years ago. Nerves all wrecked in that area of my leg.

I should hold my head in shame in posting here for all I have are two scars to behold.
The first on the right thumb where I fell and by luck found a broken bottle there waiting to break my fall.
The second is an odd one. In my youth I can recall walking incorrectly whereby by right foot struck the ankle of my left foot with each step. I can even now remember doing it but being unable to rectify it then. Scab upon scab was knocked off and I ended up with a perfectly circular scar which matched the area of the ankle bone. That scar is now some three inches above that ankle bone so it shows I have grown some since.

So one can say I have been less scarred in life than some.
Will.

Scar on my right thigh caused by misjudging the turning into Bill Switchgear's place when riding my bike to work.
Scar on my left knee - fell into the pond while fishing at Handsworth Park.
Slightly deformed ankle bone - broken when playing footie on the peck at the bottom of Putney Road and left to set by itself (hardy in them days!)
Scar on my left index finger - sliced when trying to cut a branch to make a bow for Cowboys and Injuns.
And yes - I AM a girlie!

Fascinating Les, tell me how many times you been rebuilt?:Aah: :)

Didn't have a look last night got to find some more8)

Where shall I begin????
From the bottom upwards I guess. Nooooooooooo not that bottom:rolleyes:
Left foot scar across toes and upper foot dropped the sunday roast pan on my foot
Right ankle long scar faded now, from an accident at the Pype Hayes fair with a Waltzer car tripped and it went over my foot/ankle.
Scar just under my left kneecap, Jumping off a pile of rags in my friend Molly's Dad's rag n bone yard... spring sticking out of the sofa.
Left & right knees scar 13/15 inches long both knees replaced.
Right thigh circular scar fell through the stairs in an old house and a 6inch nail stuck in my leg.
Tummy 6inch scar bikini line Hysterectomy. + two small ones when I was steralised.
Small scar under right breast lump removed, nothing serious Praise the Lord.
Scar lower lip teasing my puppy when I was a child and she bit me. My fault and I still loved her till the day she died!
Scar midway between upper lip and nose...... now dont laugh........... someone lassoed the front wheel of my scooter when I was a kid and I went face first into the gravel leaving a nasty scar as they left some of the grit in it. For years adults always looked at me and some whispered and some hateful ones didnt, did you know you have a bogey under your nose. oh and a couple of gravel scars on my elbows from same accident.
Scar on my forehead from a left hooker off my ex-husband (naturally)
And last but not least the internal scars from my broken heart!
Well you did ask !!!!!!!!!!
Oh and loads of minor scapes and bruises from my 13 month Rotty puppy who's already 7 stone and thinks I'm her cuddly cushion she can jump all over !

And the winner is...

Jude...bloody hell, I thought I had a few scars too!
Mind you, as you've cheated and used medical operation scars I'm adding two burst eardrums and a Vasectomy scar.
One smashed left knuckle (caused by a badly aimed lump hammer) and lastly a scar right on the crack of my bum caused by me coming off my motorbike..

I think the odds of a photographer standing on the corner of Cotterills Lane and Belchers lane right at the very moment I bashed my bum up are pretty remote dont you?
Having said that ladies, I'm more than willing to arrange a private viewing.. :)

Okey dokey - you bring the dark glasses, I'll provide the flak jacket and we'll club together for the 2 bottles of Scotch we'll need before and after the viewing. Hope there's no pimples - or body hair. I hate hairy bums - and pimples on hairy.........nah, sorry, on second thoughts count me out!!!

I'll have you know my bum is smooth and extremely pert, so there!
And there are more pimples on a boiled egg..so double there!

 Hey guys, sorry to be a 'killjoy', but this thread is on the main forum and not in the Aston Arms if you get my drift!!!

Les darn't show the scar Charlie the picture of his other face would be deleted - You will just have to use your imagination!!!!

In the late 50's we were playing Cowboys and Indians with our cousins who lived in Holly Lane, Erdington when I (an Indian) was chased by a Cowboy riding a broom 'horse' down behind the greenhouse at the bottom of their garden.
There was a drainpipe coming down from the greenhouse roof into a rainbarrel and it had a very rough edge. I cut my upper arm on it as I ran by and I still have the scar today.

My sister still has the scars of rope burns around her neck, from when we tied her up to the clothes post playing the same game at home this time. We were called into dinner and left her there.
Mom wasn't best pleased with me and my brother that day.
