Dilloway

Guest
Hi i'm researching the Dilloways in Birmingham and Aston area. I am looking for information on a George Dilloway who was born abt in 1742 and he died 1826 in Birmingham. He was a Brass Founder. I am trying to find out whether he had a son called John who is my verified distant grand-father.

Any info on the Dilloway families in the region would be most welcome.

Kind Regards

Stephen Orr son of Sheila Beatrice Dilloway

Hi

I don't have any information on the ancestors you are researching, but grew up in Aston during the '50s & 60's and I recognised the name "Dilloway".

However I cannot think why I know the name. Did they own a show somewhere in Aston?

Regards

I believe that some Dilloways ran a chip shop near the Villa Ground again to be confirmed.

My Grandfather Howard, worked at Hardy Spicers all his life, he was in the NFS during WW2.

I now live in London and its hard for me to find any infomation other than the web. I would love to find where the Dilloways were buried, I have only found one reference through the NBI which was George. My uncle still lives in the area and there are at 4/5 families nearby too..

George was in a partnership and the company was call Ashford & Dilloway, they were Metal Stampers in Bread Street.

Dilloways Chip Shop - yes that's what triggered my memory but I cannot think for the life of me where it was.

Dilloway

If it's any help, there was a Dilloway family living in The Broadway, Perry Barr, maybe up to the early 1980's at a guess.

The Fish shop in Upper Sutton Street used to be George Formby's it was said he was George Formby's brother and he lived in the Stechford area, your relative bought the shop between 1946 -1949 by the early 50's it changed hands again.

I was speaking with a relative of mine a few weeks ago who informed me he was born/grew up (during his early childhood) at this Fish and Chip shop (c1927 onwards I would guess).

His grandparents (my great grandparents owned these premises) as well as the pub on the opposite corner - The Golden Lion (on the corner of Upper Thomas Street and Clifton Road, Aston).

The story he related is that my g g grandparents used to tell his parents to put more salt on the chips so customers would go across to their pub to buy more ale.

Not sure how true this is.
