Did you ever do this as a child?.

G G Jean

Brummy Wench.
I sat in the garden shelling the peas I picked yesterday and couldn't resist doing this. I always loved to do it as a child, hang the empty pea pods on the line. Jean.

Never had time to do that. When I was a kid there were Redskins a plenty to chase and shoot with my Woolworth cap gun. If it was not for me and my friends you would have been over run with them and they would have eaten all the peas. Oh Happy Days.

Morning Jean, This is obviously the start of your artistic career, the form and Line of the pic shows you had vision at early age however you should have carried on with photography because your later artists brush work was to say the least disappointing, hope the arm is recovering well take care Len.

How few children today have shelled peas (and pinched a few to eat raw!) or even know that peas grow naturally in a pod, not a Birds Eye packet?

Jean, I never used to do that as I used to have to hide the evidence!!! My dad grew lots of veg - peas, purple sprouting, spouts - perfect for picking, putting in my pockets and eating in my den!
I always used to think I got away with it - years later we were talking and he said he couldn't believe the amount of veg I used to eat from his garden!

Also - I never used to wash any of it before eating it!!!

I have bought peas in pods for my children since they were old enough to eat them - I still do it now - buy a big bag and sit and pop them open and eat them- they still love it and the youngest is nearly 16.

When hubby and I had our first house, I would often hear his van pull up when he came home from work but he didn't come in the house for ages - I would look out the window to see him crouched down behind his open van door playing shooting with the lad over the road - not sure who enjoyed it the most!

They were lovely yesterday and can't wait for the next time I pick some. Lloyd my son came round the other day and I wondered why he was so long up the back of the garden then I found the evidence. He is 44 and still loves raw peas. I remember my dad growing his own peas and rhubarb. Jean.

Polly we didn't have to wash the chemical sprays off in those days and hey Len it is a bit artistic even though I say so myself not like that awfull attempt at fruit. Jean.

My Dad grew a lot of veg and when I couldn't be found Mom always knew I would be at the top of the garden picking the peas and eating them.

Yes, I have certainly does this a few times Lloyd. Everything was fine until I found a grub, then I would squeal.

Maggs my brother used to eat them. Usually little green things. I always let them go when dad was not looking. Jean.

OMG Jean are you kidding me? Did he eat the green grubs or the green peas...tell me it was the peas.

Maggs BOTH. He used to collect all forms of creepy crawlies and dropped the jar one day in the house and mom and myself jumped on the sofa. Maybe he only pretended to to wind me up. Jean.
