Demolition of the Co-Op, High Street

[NOTSHARP]

When the Co-Op in High Street was demolished, I was able to take some pictures from the roof of the building next door.

It was strange to see landmarks previously hidden from view, gradually appear as the old building came down.

The quality of my pictures is poor, I'm afraid.










The highlight of the job was the collaspse of the jib on one of the cranes.



H&S did not seem high on the agenda.




I think that the contactor was the same one that was involved in the demolition of a Listed building some years later.

Is this before the refurb?
I think it looked a lot nicer then with the white bands in the day and the lit offices in the evening contrasting the white bands.

I posted these on the High Street Birmingham thread. No idea where I got them from. Sad to see the skeleton of the building which you remember being trailed round department to department by your mum some 30 years before.
