Deeley

This is the one area of the family history I haven't really done much research on yet, mainly because of the uncertainty of the name. I recently saw some documents from WW1 from a great grandfather wih the name Daley. Thereafter we were known as Deeley. I'm not sure if this mis-spelling was a one-off, or if he actually changed the name from Daley to Deeley. There are other documents I've seen where he was called Daley, so I'm thinking the name did indeed change. This might also explain why Deeleys are mostly prominent in the Midlands and Devon, where I believe a branch of the family relocated to. If anyone has any matches in their tree or can explain any of this mystery, I'd be grateful.
My grandfather was Henry (Harry) Deeley, born 1908 in Birmingham, died 1988. Married Evelyn Allcott, Birmingham, sometime in the 1930s. Not much to go on, I know, but it's the one branch of the family I haven't really done anything on yet,

Regards

Craig Deeley

Hi Craig,
I have Deeley in my tree,John patrick Deeley Born c1910,Birmingham he
married Alice Sheppard born 1912.
I don`t know anything about John at all.
Do you think there is any connection to your Deeley`s.
Carol

Hi Carol - I think we've been in contact before on Genes Reunited regarding Albert Allcott.
My granddad Henry (Harry) Deeley had a brother Jack, whose real name might have been John - and my dad's brother is Patrick - maybe he was named after him. I've requested access to your tree to see what I can find. I've allowed you access to mine too, althouth the Deeley side is a bit empty so far, mainly because of the Daley thing.
Regards
Craig

PS Have just seen on electoral role for 1925 and 1930, 102 Devonshire St: Henry, Emily and John Daley
1935, same address, Henry Daley (the elder), Henry Daley (the younger)

I also found John and Alice living in ST Paul electoral ward in 1935

Further investigation required I think.

Carol...after a few more enquiries, I've found that my granddad's dad was called Henry, so the two Henry Daleys in Devonshire St in 1935 must be them. I've asked my dad if there was a John Daley who married Alice...and then became Deeley!

Hi Craig,
I think we have the same family.
I have the marriage certificate for John Patrick Deeley to Alice.
They married in 1932, John was living in Devonshire st when he got married, his father was called Henry.
I have opened my Tree for you now ,i haven`t much of the Deeley side
on it.
Carol:)
