the Castello family living in Birmingham found charles H ,son of George and Ann, on the 1901 after his marriage.
Found the family in 1891 living Richard street, there had always been family rumour that they were connected to birdcage making but up to this point I had no evidenceof it.
George and Ann had a daughter Rosetta born 1874.using the cd 1881 census I tried to find them and i put in Rosetta born 1874 and came up with a family in Adelaide Street George and Ann correct age all the children correct age.George a birdcage maker but instead of Castello they were all called Barton.
I have checked off all the children against the GRO and none of them check with any Barton births, but all check with Castello births.
Has anyone come across an error where the transcribers of the original documents have made a mistake in the surname of a whole family.
Has anyone access to the original entries? HELP,please.

Hi Alberta
if you haven't had a reply I can tell you that it is as you say BARTON. I can send you the image! Clear as a bell! No probs in reading it at all. Is it possible there were two marriages? Both George and perhaps the same age and/or birthplace?
My Fairy family was mistranscribed as Henry in the 1881 although the image was clearly Fairy but with yours there is such problem it is definitely Barton and there are no Castello families that I can see.
Regards
Marlene

Can anyone solve a mystery

Alberta, have you checked the addresses, i.e previous household, next household when you go on the 1881 Census to see if there are any Castellos listed in the same street? It might be worth a try.
