death in India

I wonder if someone can give me some advice on how I can find out if a death in India is that of my Gt. Uncle. I have been looking for him for years. On Family Search I found a Leonard Bray who died in May 1904 in Jhansi, Bengal, India. He was age 22 and a trooper in 5th D.G.S (I don't know what that is?). The age is about right - he was born in Worcestershire - his parents were James and Selina Bray. I know he was in the Boer War in 1902. So I am assuming he stayed in the army. I have never been able trace anything about him since 1902 - no wedding or death certificate.
Thank you for any help you can give.

Leonard Bray Age:19 Birth c 1882 Powick, Worcestershire,England .
Soldier Shorncliffe Camp Cheriton and Sandgate,Folkestone Kent, England .
This from the 1901 census, could this be him if so the one you found could be too.
 
Thank you Jukebox - Gt.Uncle Len was in the Imperial Yeomanry in 1902.
And Pomgolian - I have that information - I know about up to 1902 - so it does seem likely it's him so thank you.
Your help is appreciated as I've been looking for him for a very long time and he has been elusive.

On the AngloBoerWar.com there is a record of:
BrayL4929PrivateQSA (5). To 5th Dragoon Guards, 23 Oct 02.
Source: QSA medal rolls7th (The Princess Royal's) Dragoon Guards
Then on Findmypast there is the above's service records from the Boer War 1899-1902.

Don't know if you have already tried this though?

Sheri. I see you are in London. On the TV programme Heir Hunters they say that the records for India during the Raj are held at the British Library.
 
there are full records for personnel who served and died in british india, actually better than some of the british records.
 
Hi Suzanne, David and Paul, Thank you so much for that useful information - I feel as if I am near to solving the mystery of what happened to Gt. Uncle Len that has bugged me for years. My grandmother only kept 2 letters both from her brothers 1 I know died in WW1 and it seems as if Len died too in India.
And David I dont live too far from the British Library - will try to go soon.
