Hi all,
i have found 2 deaths on Freebmd for what i 'think' are 2 of my ancestors, they both died sept qtr 1902, with gro's of 6c 149 and 6c 140, what are the chances of them dying at the time, would i have to order the certs to confirm it, 1 was named Albert, the other Sydney, so complete ends of the alphabet, so may not fit on the page.
Can someone enlighten me on the way death cert numbers work.

Thanks
Wendy.xxx

is your one ancestor albert healey? cant find a sydney healey. was just looking on ancestry to find the original records but not sure who you are looking for. if you let me know i will have a look for you. by the way the indexes seem all over the place. i dont know how they work but ive noticed before that there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to them!!

Thanks for that, 1 is Albert W Mann, age 4, the other is Sydney T Mann, age 0.
Thanks for your help.

Dear Flounder

I think we need a surname for Arthur and Sidney to be able to help.

There could be several reasons to account for why they died close to each other; maybe they both caught something contagious like 'flu for example or were involved in an accident.

The September 1/4 covers the months of July, August and September. Deaths have to be registered within a period of so many days (I should remember how many but it slips my mind at the moment, someone else will know.) so it is possible that one died in June but it only was registered in July so would appear in that 1/4's returns. Then the other could have died towards the end of Sept and been registered in the same month.

If you don't want to buy the certificates and you have some idea where they might have been buried you could always take a look at the parish records or cemetry records.

Hope this helps
Helen

Think i will buy the certs, my curiosity is getting the better of me, forget trying to find where they are buried, cant even find where thier father is buried at the moment and that was in 1951, so finding buriels for 1902, just aint happening at the moment.

Thanks

well the indexes you gave are correct. they are both down as aston so could be buried in witton cemetery?

According to Ancestry there were 1,094 deaths recorded at the Aston office in 1902. Given that number even if they died weeks apart they are unlikely to appear on the same page in the registers

I have found both Arthur and Sidney on Ancestry but no more info than you already have. Spending £14 on 2 certs that might be a wild goose trail might seem a bit expensive but if it puts you mind at rest it will be worth it and it may save wasted time following the wrong line of enquiry. Also the certs may just give you more info to help in other ways.

Good luck
Helen

Think i will buy the certs on the off chance that it might help, then wait and see what info, if any, i get from searching thier fathers grave. I dont think they were buried anywhere else than Witton, unless there was a grave yard close to where they were living at the time, so at leaast there wont been too many church yards/cemetery to search through.

Thanks again

If you order the certs from B'ham Register Office it will make sense to give the Fathers name & say you only want the certs if there is a match for the fathers name...this will save you £14.00 on the wrong certs..& if the Fathers name does not match then you will KNOW that the certs are not the ones you want...

regards,
Margaret.

Thanks for that, am popping into Birmingham when the kids go back to school, so will apply for them then.
Thanks for all your help.

Did you know that you can apply for certificates online from the Birmingham Register Office? They usually arrive in 2 or 3 days (usually 2). It's an excellent service.

The link is
https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/Gener...1&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=792&EXPAND=5025

It is best to check that they hold the records for the area you are after by clicking the "Birmingham Registration District" link. Once you know that they have the area, return to the page and scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you will see the on-line forms for births, marriages and deaths.

Am off to Birmingham centre when the kids go back, so may as well do it while i'm there.
Thanks
Wendy
