Hi

I have a family bible presented to my great grandfather by the officers and members of the Holliday Street Early Morning School when he left to seek his fortune in the USA - October 1905. Its inscribed and signed by the Superintendent, Henry Boucher . Can anyone suggest/provide advice as to where I might be able to source more information please?

Copy of inner leaf with details attached. William was born in 1872 in Kidderminster . Bible presented October 1905 - his wife and children emigrated May 1906 to Ohio. William went before them but obviously after Oct 05. No trace of him in emigration records to confirm exact date.

The Celtic sailed from Liverpool on the 4th of May 1906, reaching Queenstown (now Cobh) at 8.20 am and picked up mail and passengers before sailing foe New York at 10.45 am. The White Star ship arrived in New York at 5.0 am on the 12th May.

On the previous arrival from New York, a Russian woman named Sara Kara had hanged herself in her cabin.

thx Lyn

Yes I have that record . And yes they did come home. Back at 2 Bishopgate St in 1911 census. My gran, Louisa May Davis told us of the journey. William had already left in October 1905 just after bible was presented.

Wikipedia…

“One of the major transatlantic Irish ports, the town was the departure point for 2.5 million of the 6 million Irish people who emigrated to North America between 1848 and 1950. On 11 April 1912, as Queenstown, it was the final port of call for the Titanicbefore she set out across the Atlantic on the last leg of her maiden voyage. She was assisted by the P.S. America and the P.S. Ireland, two ageing White Star Line tenders, along with several other smaller boats delivering first-class passengers' luggage. Some sources and local lore suggest that a Titanic crew member, John Coffey, a native of Cobh, left the ship at this time, thereby saving his life.[13] 123 passengers boarded at Cobh, with only 44 surviving the sinking.”
