Danns Jane Who is Father - Malcolm?

My Jane Dan/nn was born c1876 -1966 ( workhouse c1891 - 1899 when married - confirmed )
I have her parents as Malcolm and Jane Bedford ( not confirmed)

She married John Edward Mellows -aston 1878 - confirmed( everyone in my family seems to be called John Edward..all lines...?)

Can anyone confirm my findings and who was Malcolm Dann.


Who was malcom dann her father,
Malcolm Dan/nn.. c1824 -1898 (died in Workhouse in from 1891 - 1898)

Did find a francis with family George Gideon and John but not sure they are the same family

Also Jane was in the Workhouse HOW would she meet and marry a GUN MAKER?

and a marriage francis dann to mary ann hays 17 oct 1813 at st. marys handsworth.

in 1841 jane bedford living in st. pauls bham aged 15 a servant with the william and ann dudley and family.

her christening (and siblings) appears to be on st. martins records

william son of thomas and ellen bedford b. 11 oct 1824 chr. 25 aug 1828
jane daughter of thomas and ellen bedford b. 1 jan 1826 chr.25 aug 1828

I had some of the info, marked as not sure, so I think you have just confirmed what I had got but extra too. Thank you

I had Ellen andThomas married in Halton Bucks.. on my written notes.but no source ( always the way !! perhaps from familysearch site.)
I had them parents of Jane bedford but only had her in 1851 census so dont know why..

I had Gideoen and Ann Dann witness's at the wedding of Jane and Malcom. But again not source must have been given that and not put a name down, as not sure it was correct.

I had Malcolm in the workhouse 1891 as Maried but in 1901 Jane his wife with Daughter in Law Amy (Johns Wife) but can not understand why Jane Daughter would also be in the workhouse in 1891. From where she is supposed to have married John Edward Melows wholived at 36, St Georges St, Birmingham, Warwickshire on marriage certifcate, ( how would someone from Workhouse meet someone like that?)

is there any of the other children mentioned of fancis and mary ann?

I have found a census with Francis gideon George and John but no parents with them in 1841 upper gough street, st Thomas, think it said Malcolm was a porter so was not sure it was the same one, but as you have a John that matches his age i think it is.

even though they lived in workhouse they could come and go outside, it wasnt like a prison, just somewhere to live and be fed i think. so there is no reason jane couldnt have met and married john.

but perhaps not as it was RG 10/3124 found as MALENA DAN

on the record it says residence snow hill and father hall maker ? should it be marker??

We went to Southwell Workhouse they said they didnt leave unless, they totally left. they gave up their place, but they were not treated nicely children were seperated from the parents.

I was reading something when i did a bit for someone else.. I was telling someone locally and they said they had found some notes in the hospital about the workhouse it use to be and a women and her 12 week baby were both left in freezing cold water overnight as the mother went to sneak a peek at her baby, after it was taken away.

did hear men went looking for Housekeeper/wife for children in the workhouses, but i dont know how true that is

I have Francis c1818 in 1881
35, Broad Street, Reading, St Lawrence, Berkshire RG 11 / 1305 / 50 / 5
a photographer and married to Frances from Buckinghamshire

but can not find him before that

no sharon, cant find charles gideon and nothing i can see for francis senior apart from the marriage to mary ann hays which i posted before.

i have given you francis in 1841. and have given you his birth and christening. will look for him in 1871 etc.
