Lol, not an easy one to identify but I think it may be a BSA X34 approx 1930s, very rare bike.

That's it Postie! Super. I've been trying to identify this bike for ages.

My dad played sax in dance bands in 40's/50's travelling as far as Norwich for a gig with the sax strapped to his back on this bike. He was away a lot when I was growing up. I'm now on a modern-day Triumph still keeping up the family tradition! Thanks for adding another piece to the jigsaw.

:)Lol great photo, did you manage the Kick start later?

I'd like to think so Alf ! Maybe the possibility of kickback made me hesitate at such a tender age.

Thanks for your input Old Brummy. Similar but I think the X34 is the model. I wondered how number plate numbering sequence worked in those days. I see yours was HA 6057, my dad's was FD 9313. To work out the possible date of his bike, would this mean it was 2 years younger than yours on the assumption on the later method of changing the last letter each year? If so, what year was yours :)

Hi LOL Mine was a 1929 model Had a converted gear box to footchange ,............Wsa very hit and miss tough No positive stop so after mangling the gear box I bought a s/h gear boxand the hand change gear fro Vale - Onslow for 2 quid and tat fixed the problem . I crashed it at Blackpool and bent the frame and broke leg . I am not sure hoe the reg numbers worked but seem to recall HA was a Smethwich prefix Cheers Joe

Hi Lol,

FD is a Dudley reg, which ran from 1903 to Oct 1935 and does not
have a serial letter. It is only the 3 lettered registrations (before 2000)
which have a serial letter (not year letter), and this is always the first letter. Single suffix letters were additionally introduced in the 1960s, and
prefix letters in the 1980s to extend the life of the system. As your FD series would have run from FD 1 - FD9999, its fair to assume that 9313
would have probably been issued between 1934 and 1935. In October 1935 the reg became AFD, and AFD 1 to AFD 999 were issued between
then and July 1936 when BFD started. It just shows how the number of vehicles increased in the 1930s!

Kind regards Dave
