Customs and Sayings

I could never make it out either, but I do say it myself now, and my kids look at me as if I'm barmy.

Another one thats come to mind, if I was hungry my mom used to say do you want a piecy, meaning half a sandwich.

GOT ANY GUM CHUM? how I remember that .I asked every American I saw, "sure son you got a big sister" came the usual reply.

Mariew, when we have a family get together usually at Christmas my brother always says "can I have a piecey". We laugh and say good old nanny which is what we all called our Mom!

I used to love a treackle piecey when I came home from school!:)

Moma P I am so glad you have heard of piecey, I was begining to think it was just my mom that said it.

sugar, brown sauce,

hi moma p we used to love our piecey, sugar, brown sauce, treackle, and beef dripping, fantastic, even better if you had got the toasting fork and toasted it in front of the fire.
happy days .:) regards dereklcg

Old sayings.

 I remember people who were out of work as being on the treacle stick. I wonder where that came from. Bye. Jean.

mariew, my mom also used to say piecy and i can recall my sister asking her children the same when they were growing up. It seems like some sayings are passed on thru the generations which is rather nice dont you think.:)

I agree yes it is nice to pass the sayings on, I'm afraid my children don't say piecy now which is a shame, but if it goes cloudy they do say it's gone black over bills mothers, I don't think that one will ever die out.

yes i still say that to. What i find as well is when i am around my elder brother and sisters the brummie lingo comes staight back as tho we've never been away, yet we left brum a long time ago

I still call a sandwich a piecey at times and the understairs cupboard is called the cubby 'ole by me.

I love to have a jam piecey in my donnies.
