Cross James Help researching

Hi all

I wonder if anyone can help with my research into my ancestor James Cross. On the 1911 census he was living at 242 Aston Rd Birmingham. He was killed in WW1. I have his army details private 9731 James Cross Royal Warwickshire Regiment, I also have his medal card.
We have a photo in the family but we are not sure if it is James or not. Could anyone tell me which newspaper the report of his death was likely to be in. I am hoping to find a photo of him to match with the one I have.

I would be grateful for any help

There may not have been a picture Emma, but it may be worth looking at the Birmingham Post and Mail archives - think you can find them omnline if you google it.
Also, the link below could point you in the right direction. Do you have links with any more of the family, who may have pics stored away to compare, or does he look like anyone in your family now?

Yes, I am aware of the record but as you say it may help others. James also had a brother in law killed in WW1, Corporal Joseph Fowler 31872 Royal Field Artillery died 2nd March 1916, he died of wounds. Theatre of war France and Flanders. They are both remembered on a grave in Weaste cemetery Salford.

I have a James Cross on my tree his parents were Frank Augustus Cross and Mary Ann James.

Thank you the info you have given me. The James I have had parents Jarvis Cross and Sarah Hill. He was born in Salford and lived in Birmingham during 1907 and his death in 1916. His family then moved back to Salford.
