Hi folks I am seeking info on the surname Croome. I know my grandfather Daniel (Croome) had a small holding off Booths Lane Great Barr where he kept pigs. One old sow called Sal, got out and went into quicksand in the quarry off the lane and they had to crane her out. That was about 1950'ish.

Alberta.
That is fantastic. I believe you are right about Daniel, it definitely sounds as though that is him. My grandmother was Annie and a Ball.
This also means that you found my mom, Lily, but I thought she was born November 5 - 1912, but it was obviously 1911 then.

Hi Ron,
I know you posted this in 2008, but I thought I would add a little bit for you. Your grandfather, Daniel Croome b. 1871 in Glouscershire is my great, great grandfather. His first child Violet Elizabeth Croome b. 1897 in West Bromich, Staffordshire is my great grandmother. Violet married Charles Jehu Nightingale in 1919 in West Bromich, and they had 6 children. The first two sons were born in West Bromich, the other four in Victoria, Australia. My grandmother, Edna May Nightingale was born in 1925 in Richmond, Victoria, Australia.
Violet Elizabeth Croome was your mother's eldest sibling. Violet died in 1981 in Victoria, Australia.
So glad to have seen your post. I hope your research is coming along. I have just found the family on the 1911 census.
