Cresswell Dorothy , nee, Smith

cresser

master brummie
I am trying to find out where Dorothy Smith was born. On her death certificate, it records her birth as, 10th June, 1926, but it then just says, `England`. On 23rd November 1946, Dorothy married Leslie Cresswell, my uncle, at Wallasey Register Office, and her address at the time being 151 Victoria Road, Wallasey. This shows that she lived in Wallasey at the time, but was she born there?. Any help very much appreciated, cheers, cresser.

Re: Dorothy Cresswell, nee, Smith

Hi Cresser. Have had a look at the Jun Qtr of the births, and there are dozens of girls named Dorothy Smith. Sorry.

Barrie.

Re: Dorothy Cresswell, nee, Smith

Even further complicated by the fact that the birth could have been registered in either the 2nd or 3rd Qtr of 1926. :(

Did Dorothy have any other forenames? (There's none on the marriage entry)

Any idea of her mother's maiden name?

Assuming she didn't move far then this would be my guess:-

June Qtr 1926

SMITH, Dorothy - Lunt - W Derby - 8b 1225 - Lunt is the mother's maiden name.

Though it is little more than a guess - it's just the closest 1926 registration district to Wallasey!

EDIT: My further thought on this is that rather than applying for a birth certicate centrally (where you can no longer specify check points), you should apply to Liverpool Registration District (which now holds the West Derby registers) and specify that you want a Dorothy Smith with that birth date. You can do this online from here:-

Re: Dorothy Cresswell, nee, Smith

Barrie & Maurice,
Many thanks for replying to my post - and I know what you mean about a surname like Smith, nightmare !.
Maurice, I`ve come across the name, Lunt, myself, but like you, it was only a guess, but I`m going to get in touch with Liverpool and see what crops up - good suggestion, thanks.
Again, thanks for taking the time and trouble to help, I do appreciate it. cresser.

Re: Dorothy Cresswell, nee, Smith

If it is the Dot and Les Cresswell who lived on Warwick Road Acocks Green, and also off Dudley Park Road Acocks Green we believe they were both born in Pershore, my husband knew them well, Dot had really bad arthritis and used to have gold injections
