Cox William

I cannot find a birth certificate or any census records for my grandfather William Cox. I have found his WW1 service record which gives his birth as 1888 in Marston Green Warwickshire and his address on enlistment as 13 Dora Road Handsworth Birmingham. He had no next of kin other than a sister, Nellie, address unknown, but he named a Mrs Grimmet of the same address as his friend. The only other information I have is on his marriage certificate which named his father (deceased) as Wallace William Cox , a carpenter. I have n't been able to find anything about him either.

Re: William Cox

The first thing I would say is that his date of birth may be incorrect on his WW1 service record.
He may have lied about his age in order to enlist - i.e. may be younger.

I will have a look on the sites i subscribe to.

Re: William Cox

Thanks for the reply William. He may well have lied about his age but he must have stuck to the same story as his age on his marriage certificate in 1918 was 30 and was 48 on his death in 1937.
I also forgot to include his occupation which was a fruiterer or fruit hawker.
