Coventry Road, Small Heath

Does anyone know the original purpose of this building on the Coventry Road at the corner of Henshaw St? I think this was a welfare clinic when I was a child and can remember going for supplies of orange juice and cod liver oil. That would be just after the war.
Well, that shot brought back memories. My mother used to take us there to get the orange juice for me and my sister. I was 6 years old (1956). I clearly remember standing outside with my 1 year old sister in her pram. I also seem to remember my sister was there for some medical checks.

Re post #63, the full image is in post #33 with modern day comparison. The front gardens were removed from the that scene and there are now shops at street level.

The first photo (post #68) is from a postcard dated 1931, after a tornado, at the junction with Charles Road (see post #44).

The third photo is at the junction with Wordsworth Road (see post #35). All still there, albeit with changed street level shop frontage.

This picture was taken in 1951. It is looking down the Coventry road towards the Watery lane/ Sandy lane junction.
The buses are travelling towards Birmingham city centre.
If you look past the last bus on the right, you can just make out buildings that might be the houses that stood where Victoria garage was or they might be the building next door which was the Birmingham Corporation refuse dept.
I lived in Sandy Lane till 1962
