There is a birth registered of a Louisa Cotterell in Birmingham, 2nd quarter 1873, Vol 6d page 75.

Hello Alisan
Not sure what the 1910 date is that you give for Lillian Smith, I can find no birth for her around that time. I have found a possible marriage for Louisa Cotterell to Thomas Smith June quarter 1905. ref Birmingham 6d 129, I can't find a marriage for Louisa Cotterell to John William Carter, but I'll have another look.

Here is Louisa's family on the 1881 census. Father James is a Boot Maker, brother Richard a Jeweller. They were all born in Birmingham,

I think it was the enmumerator in 1881 who got the names mixed up because I have found a marriage for Richard Cotterell to Louisa Reding September Quarter 1858 ref Birmingham 6d 7

On the 1891 census the only Louisa I can find is shown as Louisa Cottrill, aged 18 Servant living at 101 Balsall Heath Road Edgbaston. The family are named Carter but there is no John William.

Thanks so much. I realise I made a mistake in putting her husband's name up as the father. Sorry about that monumental mistake. It seems you have the right family and I really thank you for that information. alisan
